Today’s ruling in the Oscar Pistorius case left a bad taste in many followers’ mouth. The Olympic athlete was on trial for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, Valentines Day of 2013. However the judge, Thokozile Masipa, ruled in favor of Pistorius citing that the prosecution did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed premeditated murder. However, the judge added that it “is clear that his conduct was negligent.”
Meaning while he’s innocent on charges of murdering his girlfriend, he’s not quite in the clear.
The court will resume tomorrow morning (Sept 12) for more ruling from the judge and he’s still facing “Culpable homicide,” or manslaughter charges. This sentencing—while less than life— can carry a hefty prison term.
Yet the first part of Masipa’s ruling has already caused an uproar on Twitter. The go-to for all things deemed important believes he’s the 2014 OJ Simpson. The only thing they feel is worse than NFL ignoring Ray Rice’s fiasco is Oscar being a free man and they’re tweeting about it.
