Yesterday a video surfaced that featured a white school officer, Ben Fields, violently manhandling a young black girl at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina.
The school’s resource officer was called to remove a disruptive student from the classroom after attempts to get her to leave failed. In the video which was shot by students in the class and uploaded to Youtube, Fields is heard telling the girl to leave. Shortly after she doesn’t respond, he grabs her by her neck, slams her around (while she’s still seated), and drags her out.
In the end, reportedly two students, the girl in the video and a boy that was recording, were arrested for disrupting the class. The officer has been placed under administrative leave pending investigation by the sheriff’s department.
IB Times reports as Sheriff Leon Lott of Richland County, South Carolina, is working with the FBI and the Department of Justice to investigate the incident.
While the FBI and local sheriffs investigate the incident, Twitter has been typing away their frustration. Check out what Twitter had to say after the jump.
