Russell Simmons is integrating hip hop and Hollywood, one project at a time.
The music-mogul-turned-yoga-enthusiast has set his eyes on opera. Planning to infuse hip hop with the classical music genre, the Def-Jam co-founder is creating a hip hop opera titled “Cain and Abel.”
According to Billboard, this is a “true passion project” for the mogul who teamed up with his business partner (president of Def Pictures) Jake Stein to get his next project up and running.
“What ‘Rock of Ages’ did with rock, we’re planning on doing with hip-hop,” says Stein. They plan on taking their hip-opera on tour around the country. The Omar Epps and Onyx member, Sticky Fingaz-scripted musical will most likely premiere at various “iconic hip-hop venues” in major U.S. cities.
