Misty Copeland is the latest household name to join the TV realm.
Deadline reports that writer Tracy Oliver is teaming up with Misty Copeland to develop a dance drama series for FOX. The series has yet-to-be-titled but will focus on a diverse group of aspiring dancers journeying to secure spots in a top ballet company.
Oliver, who has studied music, dance, and theatre from elementary school through college, has been trying to develop a series with a fine arts focus. And with her fascination with Copeland’s historic story as American Ballet Theater’s first black female principal dancer, she knew she wanted to work with the dancer. Tracy cold-called Copeland and her manager, Gilda Squire, to pitch her TV project, which Copeland immediately agreed to.
