The man responsible for shooting 12 police officers and killing five at the protest in Dallas last night has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson.
Johnson, 25, is from Mesquite, Texas and had no previous criminal history or ties to terror groups. According to reports Micah, who is also a US Army Veteran, told officers he acted alone despite reports that there were as many as four gunmen involved in the shooting.
“The suspect said he was upset about Black Lives Matter. He said he was upset about the recent police shootings of black suspects,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown said in a press conference. “He said he was upset at white people. The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”
Johnson was killed last night around 11pm when cops cornered him at El Centro College. They attempted to negotiate for four hours before using a robot to detonate a bomb and kill the suspect.
Before Johnson allegedly began his shooting spree the protest was peaceful. It was in response to the recent killing of black men, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
