Happy Birthday Jhene Aiko!
The songstress’ 29th birthday is today, which also happens to be Throwback Thursday. So in honor of this weekly ritual, we’re putting the best Jhene Aiko throwback pictures on display. Jhene is one of 8 kids by her parents, Dr. Karamo Chilombo and Christina Yamamoto. They have since divorced.
When Jhene was 20, she had a daughter, Namiko Love, with O’Ryan –Omarion’s little brother.
Jhene Aiko first made waves through B2K. She was marketed as being Lil’ Fizz’s cousin but they weren’t related just childhood friends. She also sang on the group’s song “Tease” off their Pandemonium album.
Every artist seems to have an alter ego. Jhene’s alter ego is J. Hennessy.
Jhene Aiko’s views Tupac as one of her biggest influences. “[He’s] a big inspiration for me just to stick to who I am and to actually stand for something through music,” she has said in interviews. “An icon for speaking your mind and being you, even if it’s controversial.”
Jhene Aiko was homeschooled. She also took vocal lessons up until she got unexpectedly pregnant with her daughter.
Jhene Aiko lost her brother, Miyagi, to cancer on July 19, 2012. She wrote “For My Brother” for him. He was able to hear it before he passed.
Before she kicked off her own career, Aiko appeared in various music videos such as B2K’s videos “Uh Huh” and “Why I Love You.” She also was featured on the soundtrack for Barbershop and The Master of Disguise.
Aiko was secretly married to record producer Oladipo “Dot da Genius” Omishore (NOT PICTURED), for two years before anyone knew. She filed for divorce last August citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Jhene’s older sisters Miyoko and Jamila used to be in an R&B group called Gyrl. They didn’t last long and Jamila aka Mila J continued to pursue a solo career.
