It will be 15 years since ‘Bad Boys 2’ came out by the time the third installment is released.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Bad Boys 3 gets a new name and release date. The action comedy cop flick starring Will Smith as Detective Mike Lowery and Martin Lawrence as Detective Marcus Burnett will now be titled ‘Bad Boys For Life’ and be released January 12, 2018.
This is the third time the film has been pushed back. When it was first announced that the movie was coming into fruition, it was originally set for Feb. 17, 2017, then pushed back to June 2, 2017, and now we’re looking at a new year entirely.
The movie’s title is a fitting throwback however to the second installment’s most touching (and my favorite) scene. It’s the part of the film when shit really hits the fan, Lowery tells Burnett, “We ride together, we die together, bad boys for life,” before they jet set to Mexico to rescue Burnett’s sister from a drug lord.
A new title isn’t the only “new” thing associated with this project. Michael Bay who directed both Bad Boys won’t return for the third film. Joe Carnahan will direct it.
On the good side, the fourth installment “Bad Boys 4” (we’re assuming its name is now tentative) is still going to be released July 3, 2019.
