Amid the naysayers, in a year’s time Jay Z managed to turn TIDAL into one of the hottest and most exclusive streaming services.
It’s so hot and celebrity endorsed that The Wall Street Journal is reporting Apple is in talks to buy TIDAL from Jay Z.
No real announcement has been made from Apple, which has its own music streaming service with Apple Music, but negotiations are underway. TIDAL on the other hand has commented that head execs have not met with the music platform just yet.
If Apple manages to acquire TIDAL, they would be able to match up against Spotify, which is both Apple and TIDAL’s biggest competitor. Not only that but Apple would gain all of TIDAL’s big-ticket artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and more.
Jay purchased the music streaming service from Swedish company Aspiro in March 2015 for a reported $56 million. Despite the more expensive subscription fee and the revolving door of chief executives, TIDAL’s subscribers have grown significantly, since Jay took over. Much thanks to the exclusive album releases of ‘ANTI,’ ‘The Life of Pablo,’ and Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade,’ as well as all the exclusive concert streams and ‘Ye’s latest “Famous” music video release
Apple would also gain Prince’s entire discography that lives on TIDAL only.
All and all if this deal goes through Apple would officially be winning.
