The biopic trailer we’ve all been waiting for is here.
Yesterday (July 3) the long anticipated trailer for the Jimi Hendrix biopic, “Jimi: All Is By My Side,” starring Andre 3000 was released.
Transporting viewers to the mid 60s, the story opens up with a visual documenting the importance of Hendrix’s musical legacy. The 1/2 of Outkast—billed in the film as Andre Benjamin—gives an innate performance of the late musician in this sneak peek.
Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave director John Ridley, takes on the legend’s story to tell his early musical years. The picture divulges into his signature on-stage presence with 3000 encapsulating the late singer’s persona and swagger.
“I didn’t look at him as an icon because when you’re in it, you don’t know that you’re an icon,” Andre explained to AP how he prepared for the role. “I would just say, ‘What would Jimmy want people to know that they can’t get off of YouTube?’”
The one-and-a-half minute trailer also divulges into his personal life and a build-up of his relationship with longtime muse Katy Etchingham—played by Hayley Atwell.
“When the power of love takes over the love of power, that’s when things will change,” Benjamin says in his Hendrix drawl.
The film also stars Imogen Poots, Ruth Negga, and Burn Gorman. Press play to watch the trailer and make sure you’re in theaters when it releases on September 26.
