United Airlines is an airline that I would definitely say fly at your own risk.
From my personal experience of getting stranded in Mexico when they went on strike to their more serious situations that make national headlines, United is one of the worst airlines to fly.

In 2012 United left a 10-year-old stranded in Chicago after it outsourced their unaccompanied minor program and the person never picked the girl up, making her miss her connecting flight to camp. (Read here)
In 2012, two United airline attendants kicked a veteran’s service dog twice. An attendant also asked if the man was retarded. (Read here)
In 2009 United broke a band’s guitars as it unloaded them from the plane. When they didn’t reimburse the man for their destruction of his property he made a music video that went viral. It caused the airline’s stock to go down and really bad PR. (Read here)
