20 Movies You Didn’t Know Were Remakes

Angels in the Outfield starring Danny Glover was a remake of the 1951 version by the same name. The original was set around the Pittsburgh Pirates, since the Los Angeles Angels weren’t established until 1961.

Ocean’s Eleven is a remake of the 1951 version of the same name. Sammy Davis Jr. starred in the black-and-white original while Bernie Mac and Don Cheadle starred in the remake.

The 2005 ‘Guess Who’ which starred Zoe Saldana and the late Bernie Mac was a loose remake of ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.’ In the 1967 it was a black guy, played by Sidney Poitier, the main character bought home to meet her parents.

The 2016 version of ‘When The Bough Breaks’ starring Regina Hall, Maurice Chestnut, and newcomer Jaz Sinclair is a remake of the 1947 version of the same name.

The 2016 western film ‘The Magnificent Seven’ starring Denzel Washington was actually a remake of the 1960 version.

Brewsters Millions was a remake of the 1945 version of the same name. Both we’re movie adaptations of the novel written by George Barr McCutcheon. The 1985 remake starred Richard Pryor.

The Chris Rock-led 2010 comedy ‘Death at a Funeral’ was a remake to the 2007 British version. Martin Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, Tracy Morgan, Regina Hall, Danny Glover, Loretta Devine, Columbus SHort, and Kevin Hart all starred alongside Rock for this dysfunctional family comedy.

‘Down to Earth’ (2001) starring Chris Rock and Regina King is a remake of the 1978 comedy, ‘Heaven Can Wait.’ Which the 1978 is a remake of ‘Here Comes Mr. Jordan’ a film made in 1941.

The 2017 comedy ‘Going in Style’ which starred Morgan Freeman is the remake of the 1979 version.

Will Smith’s last man alive flick ‘I am Legend’ is actually a remake of ‘The Omega Man’ in 1971 and ‘The Last Man on Earth’ in 1964. They all are adaptations of Richard Matheson’s 1954 book ‘I Am Legend’.

The 2006 romantic comedy ‘Last Holiday,’ starring  Queen Latifah and LL Cool J was a remake of the 1950 film.

The jail comedy ‘The Longest Yard’ which starred Chris Rock and Nelly was a remake of 1974 film.

Damon Wayan’s 1995 comedy, ‘Major Payne’, which co-starred ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s’ Karyn Parson is a remake of ‘The Private War of Major Benson’

‘The Nutty Professor’ (1996) is a remake of the 1963 version of ‘The Nutty Professor.’ There are stark differences however because in the ’63 version the main character takes a potion to become suave while in the Eddie Murphy version is goes from obese to lean and suave.

Denzel Washington’s ‘The Manchurian Candidate’ (2004) was a remake of the 1962 version. Both films were adaptations of Richard Condon’s 1959 novel of the same name.

The Preacher’s Wife (1996) which starred the late Whitney Houston, Denzel Washington and Courtney B. Vance was the remake of ‘The Bishop’s Wife (1947).

Another film starring Denzel Washington is ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ in 2009. It is a remake of 1974’s ‘The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.’

‘Taxi,’ The 2004 comedy starring Queen Latifah is a remake of the 199 French film franchise ‘Taxi.’

‘Thirteen Ghost’ starring Rah Digga which came out in 2001 is a remake of the 1960 William Castle horror classic.

2008’s ‘The Women’ which starred .Jada Pinkett Smith and Eva Mendes was a remake of the 1939 film of the same premise and name.
